Girls Select U14: Day 3 Recap

The 2013 USA Hockey Select U14 Player Development Camp completed its third day of games at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud on July 24. In the first game, Team Gold won a close 4-2 match against Team Red. Team Gold’s Julia Nearis had both a goal and an assist in the game, and Team Red’s Veronika Pettey and Maddie Giordano scored their team’s only goals. Kate Winstanley and Alexa Matses of Team Red blocked 23 shots, while Team Gold’s Lauren Rippy and Lindsay Browning made 15 saves.

 

In the day’s second game, Team White earned a 2-0 victory to give Team Black its first loss of the week. Maggie Plaza scored a goal at the end of the first period for Team White, assisted by Elizabeth Faulk and Madison Walker. Melanie Anderson scored the game’s final goal in the second, with assists from Plaza and Grace Middleton. Team Black’s Cameron Leonard blocked a total of 13 goals, and Kailee Medved and Hayley Kliczko of Team White blocked an impressive 28 shots, giving them the shutout and most saves on the day.

 

The final game today was featured a solid 5-3 Team Green victory over Team Blue. Team Green’s Marielle McHale notched the hat trick with three markers in the game. Mairi Anthony led Team Blue with a goal in the first period and an assist in the second. Team Blue’s Elizabeth Hanson and Lynsey Wallace blocked 17 shots in the game, and Team Green’s Danielle Marquez and Jennifer Gregg combined for 18 saves on the day.
