Youth Select 15: Day Two Recap

  • Roster Update: Orange's Logan Brown (No. 14) did not dress on Tuesday due to injury.
  • Break in the Action: Please note that competition play will resume on Thursday, July 18.  Wednesday will be reserved for practices and two off-ice presentations for participants.
  • Sticking With It: In a week that has already featured multiple second-half comebacks, Purple and Navy continued the trend on Tuesday.  Down 2-1 at the half, Purple came out firing on all cylinders in the last stanza and buried six goals to defeat Royal by a score of 7-4.  No. 14 Henry Crone (1G, 4A), No. 8 Patrick Khodorenko (1G, 2A), No. 12 Kiefer Bellows (2G, 0A), No. 17 Joey Kubachka (2G, 0A), No. 3 Billy Overby (0G, 2A), No. 15 Christopher Berger (0G, 2A) and No. 7 Jakob Chychrun (1G, 1A) all recorded multiple-points for Purple, while Royal's No. 10 Clayton Keller (2G, 1A) and No. 9 Liam Murphy (0G, 3A) tallied three points apiece in the loss. Similarly, Navy trailed by the same 2-1 score heading into the final 25 minutes before lighting the lamp five times for a 6-3 victory over Forest.  Logan Drevitch (No. 18) led the way offensively for Navy with three goals and an assist in the contest, with Trystan Isenhour (No. 11) chipping-in a pair of goals to go along with an assist.  John Vincent (No. 17) also added a goal for the winning squad.
  • U.S. College Hockey Making its Way to the Forefront: The 2013 NHL Draft included 63 current or future college players, representing 29 Division I schools. It marks the 12th straight season that at least 60 college players have been selected in the draft ... One Hundred Ninety-Five former U.S. college hockey players have their names on the Stanley Cup as players. A former NCAA player has been on the Cup-winning team for 37 years in a row  ... In the last six seasons, 36 percent of the players who made their NHL debuts came from college hockey. The six previous seasons that, number was 23 percent ...   • More NHL Lineage: Black's No. 5, Callan Foote, is the son of former standout NHL defenseman, Adam Foote.   Foote, who spent the majority of his 19-year career with the Colorado Avalanche, was also a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets for the better part of three seasons (2005-08).  Along the way, the hard-nosed blue-liner amassed a total of 308 points to go along with 1,534 penalty minutes over 1,154 games.  He also won a pair of Stanley Cups with Colorado in 1996 and 2001.
