Youth Select 17: Day Two Recap

  • Roster Update: Anthony Petrella (No. 18) replaced Christopher Wilkie on Gold’s roster and will remain in that spot.  No. 4 Cooper Watson of Forest returned to the lineup after missing the opening game and took his spot on the roster, which was being filled by Jack Cleaver. Columbia's Dylan Gambrell (No. 10) and Lane Bauer (No. 12) will not return to camp due to injury, with Max Kaufman (No. 19) and Ben Sharf (No. 12) joining the team on Saturday to fill the roster spots for the duration of camp.  For Black, Luke Bafia (No. 3) has skated in place of Michael Lee and Ryan Fritz (No. 19) made his camp debut on Saturday for Jake McCarthy (No. 6), who will not appear in camp because of an injury.  Nathan Sucese (No. 9) made his camp debut for Black after missing the first game.
  • A Brother To Look Up To: Grey's Brendan van Riemsdyk (No. 16) is the younger sibling of current Toronto Maple Leafs forward and former U.S. National Team Development Program member James van Riemsdyk.  Similar to his older brother, Brendan also owns a sizable frame, standing 6-foot-3 and just a shade under 200 pounds.
  • Bouncing Back in a Big Way: After falling in their opening tournament game, Royal responded with an 8-2 victory over Grey, finding the back of the net five times in the second half.   Five of the club's skaters contributed multiple points in the effort, led by Corey Hoffman's seven-point explosion (four goals, three assists).   Dakota Joshua (one goal, three assists), Will Harrison (two goals, one assist), Nicky Wolff (two assists) and Trevor Heuser (one goal, one assist) also added multiple-point games.
  • Scholar Athletes: This week's camp feature's 17 players that boast a GPA of 4.00 or higher.  Red's Erik Wurman (No. 1) stands alone at the top with an astounding 5.20 GPA, while team Grey has the most players earning perfect-or-better marks with four.
  • The seventh annual Hockey Weekend Across America, presented by CCM, will be staged nationwide Feb. 28-Mar. 1.
