Girls Player Development Camps

USA Hockey Girls' Player Development Camps

USA Hockey and its twelve districts provide player development opportunities at the affiliate, district, regional, and national level throughout the year. USA Hockey hosts three National Player Development Camps for girls ages 15, 16 and 17. The week-long experience at any of the three camps exposes participants to various ‘best practices’ and training strategies directly aligned with the U.S. Women’s National Team’s training, expectations, and culture so players can return home with the tools to develop their skills over the course of that season (and seasons to come).

NATIONAL NOTIFICATION TIMELINE:

To streamline the communication surrounding selections, avoid confusion about the notification process, and provide families with as much advanced notification as possible for planning purposes, USA Hockey is implementing a National Notification Timeline in 2016. This approach will enable USA Hockey to notify the majority of players on targeted dates built into the annual District Tryout calendar. Even with the National Notification Timeline, some players will not be notified until June 22, 2016, when the last of the twelve district tryouts are complete because USA Hockey has a responsibility to allow all District Tryouts to take place before finalizing all players selected to attend the three National Player Development Camps. With the final District Tryouts ending on June 16, 2016, and the first Girls National Player Development Camp beginning on June 24, 2016, USA Hockey will follow the National Notification Timeline to confirm as many spots as early as possible, while simultaneously leaving space open for any potential candidates in the final District Tryouts. If a selected player has an extenuating circumstance (emergency, injury, sickness, etc.) that prevents her from participating in camp, it is possible that a player named as an alternate may be invited by the National Office to attend camp after the final National Notification Timeline date, and this invitation to attend the camp may happen as late as the start (or even a few days into) the camp.

DISTRICT AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

In addition to the National Development Camps, there are additional development opportunities available to girls at the District and Regional level and USA Hockey encourages players to take advantage of these opportunities to obtain valuable resources that can be applied to their long-term athlete development and growth as a hockey player. The District and Regional opportunities available will vary by District. Most opportunities focus on the 14-17 year-old age range (1999-2002 birth years); however, additional opportunities may be available in some Districts for the 1998, 2003, and 2004 birth years. Because each District has a unique player development process and opportunities, we recommend that you review the District-Specific Girls’ Player Development Guide:
