Girls Select 15: Day Two Recap

Day Two at the 2014 USA Hockey Girls’ Select 15 Player Development Camp opened with a 7-3 victory by Team Red over Team Grey on July 22. Natalie Heising led Team Red with three goals and one assist in the victory, while teammate Katie Cipra had one goal and one assist. In the nets, Team Red’s goalie tandem of Elizabeth Hanson and Kate Froling combined for 17 saves in the contest.

In game two, Team Blue skated to a 4-2 victory over Team Gold at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Michaela Boyle posted the second hat trick of the day with her three goals for Team Blue. Grace Markey charted Blue’s other goal, while teammate Ellen Barney had two assists in the contest. Madison Mahre and Charlotte Welch scored goals for Team Gold in the game.

The second day of competition ended with a 5-1 victory by Team Green over Team Black. Team Green’s Joie Phelps and Delaney Drake tallied first period markers, while Team’s Black’s lone goal was scored by Clair DeGeorge late in the first. In the final 28:00 of the game, Team Green took command with goals by Taylor Curtis, Margaret Walsh and Madeline Posick. Team Green’s goalies Cierra San Roman and Cameron Leonard combined for 21 saves and the win.

The eighth annual Hockey Weekend Across America, presented by CCM, will be staged nationwide Feb. 20-22. More information on the celebration will be coming in the weeks and months ahead.
